  • Marco Caflisch writes asking whether he could be pointed in the direction of an individual or organization around the Nuneaton area who may be able to rent / loan him a men's road bike for approximately 6 weeks during the period September 1st to October 16th?

  • He will be working at MIRA and as a keen amateur road cyclist would like to cycle while he's in the country. He usually fits a male 59cm frame, plus or minus.

  • Nuneaton and Bedworth Cycle Forum have issued a document, the introduction of which I have reproduced here. The next meeting of the Forum will be on Monday, 18th October 2010 at the Council House.
Cycling Officer Project Brief - Project Overview
"To employ an officer on a three year fixed term contract to help develop cycling across Nuneaton & Bedworth. We would look to increase the provision of cycling for both adults and children, by utilising and developing current provision as well as establishing new projects and routes.
We would also aim to ensure training would be on offer through bikeability training to ensure riders who wanted to be competent and safe while on the road could do so. We would look to train the officer to be able to deliver bikeability courses."
  • Trevor Batchelor sent me this link. It lobbies for the awareness and observation of what I thought was law in the Highway Code - a 3 feet gap between road users. Have a look at this at http://3feetplease.org.uk/
  • Map commissioning. Stephen Holt has now provided us with some 'firmed-up' drafts which he has asked us to take out and test run. These will be a valuable addition to the bike culture of Nuneaton and district, hopefully attracting would-be cyclists looking for detailed routes and safe journeys. Stephen also does cycle training under the name of Purrfect Pedalling and can be contacted on 07896 885726 or at info@purrfectpedalling.co.uk.
  • In future Rugby group's Wednesday rides will be added to our rides list. What part of the future that is I've no idea but I will get round to it.
  • Thanks to all those whose efforts resulted in yet another successful Family Fun Ride, Organisers, Marshalls, Signers-Inners, Setters-Uppers, the Barbie Crew and our regular Photographer - and all those who turned up to share in the experience. The weather was good so the admin team decamped outside - leaving the breeze to have usual capricious way with papers and displays. Thanks to the Mayor, Don Navarro, for actively getting involved, arriving (and departing ) on his bike and leading the riders off and generally being a good sport. Thanks too to Chris Dodds & Sons, The Village Cycle Centre, Halfords (Coventry), Friends of the Earth and St.Johns Ambulance for their participation - and of course, last but not least, The Ambleside Sports & Social Club.
  • WAYC (Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs) BIKERIDE FUNDRAISER 2010. WAYC would like us to use our pedal power to raise funds for the refurbishment of their 70ft narrowboat ‘Dream Catcher.’ The boat is an invaluable resource that enables young people to experience residentials on the Warwickshire canals.
The sponsored ride will be over 26 picturesque miles of Sustrans and canal tow path cycle routes (mostly level gradients) and will take place on Sunday 10th October.
For details about how you can enter either as a team or individuals, please contact James Clarke at WAYC on: 01926 450156.
  • We've received an e-mail from Nathan Blundell (Club Development - Nuneaton & Bedworth Leisure Trust) regarding the 2010 Nuneaton & Bedworth Club Development Evening which will be taking place on Thursday 14th October 2010 at Ambleside Sports Club from 5:30pm. This initiative is concerned with the long-term support and development of clubs (don't know how wide their remit is) throughout the Borough. The night will be fairly informal with a number of market stalls providing information that relates to local sports clubs. In addition to this there will be two presentation slots at 6pm and 7pm with presentation on Funding for Sports Club from WCAVA and Club Development Support from NBLT. Both slots will have both presentations. I'm not sure whether individual club members or Club representatives only are invited. If you have any queries contact Nortoft on 01604 586526 or Nathan on 02476 400589 or 07881 840727 www.nbleisuretrust.org
